New Pathways
The California Sustainability Alliance partners with public and private organizations to collaboratively identify and advance new technologies and techniques for achieving more sustainability, faster and more economically. Below are some of the primary organizations that are actively engaged in advancing the best in sustainability technologies, tools and practices.
Check back here for periodic updates about these and other organizations, their efforts to advance sustainability, and potential opportunities to participate in pilot programs.
Energy
In California, two primary organizations share responsibility for the advancement and adoption of new energy technologies, tools and practices. Both are funded by Public Goods Charges collected from customers of California investor-owned electric and gas utilities.
California Energy Commission (CEC)
Public Interest Energy Research (PIER) Division

PIER’s mandate is to conduct “… research, technology development and demonstration of new technologies for generation of electricity, electricity demand-side management, and natural gas.”
Emerging Technologies Coordinating Council (ETCC)

The ETCC, comprised of the state’s four investor-owned energy utilities and the California Energy Commission, was created to help bridge the gap between RD&D and technology adoption.

The California Sustainability Alliance’s sister activity, the Portfolio of the Future, complements these efforts by helping PIER and the ETCC find new pathways from RD&D and emerging technologies to California customers and markets.
