Green Local Government

The Green Local Government Pilot Program will help develop tools that enable local government and developers to have informed dialogues about the carbon and other resource and environmental impacts of potential sustainability options, so that they can decide whether it might be worth the investment to remedy barriers and hurdles to implementation.

This pilot will focus on comprehensively greening local government itself with the objective of significantly reducing barriers to sustainability implementation. This pilot has three primary objectives:
  1. To assist local government in implementing fully integrated “green” policies, plans and programs that permeate every level of local government;
  2. To substantially reduce internal conflicts among local government policies, plans and programs that could deter sustainability implementation, and
  3. To create processes and forums that facilitate open dialogues among local governments and their constituents about sustainability barriers and remedies.
