Southern California Gas Co.
Southern California Gas Co. has been delivering clean, safe and reliable natural gas to its customers for more than 140 years. It is the nation’s largest natural gas distribution utility, serving a population of 20.1 million consumers through 5.6 million gas meters in more than 500 communities. The company’s service territory encompasses approximately 20,000 square miles of diverse terrain throughout Central and Southern California, from Visalia to the Mexican border.
Headquartered in Los Angeles, we are a subsidiary of Sempra Energy (NYSE:SRE), a Fortune 500 company based in San Diego. Our commitment to provide customers with world-class service has been the key to our longevity and success. Our slogan, “Glad to be of service,” reflects this spirit. Our expertise and experience, as well as our size, scope and resources, make us a leader in the natural gas industry. We fuel about half of all the energy use in our service area (non- transportation-related). In total, we deliver nearly 1 trillion cubic feet of gas annually, or about 5% of all the natural gas delivered in the U.S. Like other investor-owned utilities in the state, Southern California Gas Company’s operations are regulated by organizations such as the California Public Utilities Commission.
We have a diverse portfolio of energy efficiency programs that help achieve California's sustainability goals. One of those programs focuses on residential new construction, which is comprised of two main elements. The Advanced Home Program is a performance-based program that provides incentives for building homes that exceed the California Building Energy Efficiency Standards (Title 24) by at least 15 percent. These homes can also qualify for the ENERGY STAR® for homes label, which is widely recognized for energy efficiency. Through our Case Study Program, Southern California Gas Company seeks to create a comprehensive case study portfolio of projects structured around three principles: energy, resources and the environment. The program helps builders, architects and designers with a broad base of support, including design assistance, outside expertise, financial incentives, education, resources and recognition. These case studies will highlight the underutilized potential of sustainability in new construction and bring innovative approaches to the marketplace.
