March 8, 2012-The California Sustainability Alliance has selected the following organizations as award recipients for the 2011 Sustainability Showcase Awards: Kilroy Realty Corporation (Commercial Buildings); First Community Housing (Multifamily Housing); City of Riverside (Local Government); and Burbank Water and Power (Water Agencies). November 1, 2011-The California Sustainability Alliance is currently accepting submissions for its 2011 Sustainability Showcase Awards. Now in its fourth year, the Sustainability Showcase Awards recognizes the successful sustainable policies, programs, practices and technologies implemented by leading organizations. The Alliance is seeking leaders in sustainability in four areas: Commercial Buildings, Multifamily Housing, Local Government, and Water Agencies. Submissions are currently being accepted and will be received until midnight on January 20, 2012. The winning entries will be notified February 2012. Submit an application, and learn more about the Sustainability Showcase Awards.

June 6, 2011- The Alliance and the City of Santa Monica release three new videos showcasing the City’s sustainability efforts. The videos feature unique government practices in solar energy, farmers markets, and urban forestry. The videos were created to highlight some of the leadership qualities that led the City of Santa Monica to win the Grand Prize of the 2009 California Sustainability Alliance Awards. 

April 12, 2011 –The California Sustainability Alliance is pleased to announce that the sustainability showcases for 2010 Sustainability Showcase Award recipients are now available.  The sustainability showcases are web pages highlighting the organizations’ best practices so that others can learn about successful strategies, tools and techniques to adopt and adapt to their own sustainability efforts.

March 21, 2011 - The Alliance releases a 20 minute video titled "The Competitive Edge: Commercial Green Building in California." In this documentary video, viewers will learn what green building is and what types of green building measures are most effective in California. The Thomas Properties Group shows benefits of the green building value proposition experienced in leading green buildings managed in Sacramento and Los Angeles, California. In 2004 Governor Schwarzenegger issued an Executive Order known as the Green Building Initiative, which directs state agencies to reduce energy use in state facilities by 20% by 2015. 

February 14, 2011- The California Sustainability Alliance is pleased to announce the launch of our redesigned website.  After 3 years, it was time to update our look and content. Our new website layout will enable us to offer more dynamic content on the homepage, including multimedia and the latest information from our blog and twitter feed.

January 10, 2011-The Alliance updated and re-launched the Water-Energy Program content of on our website with new information regarding the critical relationship between water and energy in California.  Our new content highlights the opportunities California has for reducing the energy intensity of the state’s water-use cycle, identifies key measures to reduce water related energy use, and discusses the regulatory challenges facing water providers as well as policy strategies for overcoming them. 

December 21, 2010-The California Sustainability Alliance has selected the following organizations as award recipients for the 2010 Sustainability Showcase Awards: Balboa Park Cultural Partnership (Commercial Buildings); Eden Housing (Multifamily Housing); City of Chula Vista (Local Government); and Santa Clara Valley Water District (Water Agencies). Two organizations have been selected for honorable mention: EAH Housing (Multifamily Housing) and City of Tulare (Local Government). Learn more about the 2010 Sustainability Awards.

October 19, 2010-The California Sustainability Alliance is currently accepting submissions for its 2010 Sustainability Showcase Awards. Now in its third year, the Sustainability Showcase Awards recognizes the successful sustainable policies, programs, practices and technologies implemented by leading organizations. The Alliance is seeking leaders in sustainability in four areas: Commercial Buildings, Multifamily Housing, Local Government, and Water Agencies. Submissions are currently being accepted and will be received until midnight on December 1, 2010. The winning entries will be announced on the Alliance’s website in mid‐January. September 8, 2010- The California Sustainability Alliance launches its Green Procurement Toolkit and Guide to assist local governments in adopting environmentally friendly procurement plans.  The toolkit incorporates case studies of eight leading local governments in California and Washington. In addition, it outlines steps for greening procurement policies and includes draft policy language, sample green bid specifications, best practices from local, state and federal governments across the country, and information on eco‐labeling and links to public and private eco‐labeling programs.

August 26, 2010- The California Sustainability Alliance releases its 2010 Utility Sustainability Roundtable report, building on the success of its 2007 Utility Sustainability Roundtable. These reports summarize the views of representatives from leading utilities on the primary financing, regulatory, and technological barriers facing the industry. The Alliance also launches a Green Building Barometer, which reports the percentage of rentable building area certified green through LEED® or ENERGY STAR®.

July 6, 2010- The California Sustainability Alliance releases the Local Government Resources Toolkit and new information on Emerald Riverside’s innovative sustainability programs. The Local Government Resources Toolkit helps cities and counties locate information, calculators, and funding opportunities their communities can use to help set and meet sustainability goals. New information documents the City of Riverside’s innovative sustainability policies, programs, and public outreach to serve as an example of best practices for other communities in California. March 30, 2010- The California Sustainability Alliance recently released new resources to help communities, local governments, and public agencies reach their sustainability goals. These include the 2009 sustainability showcases, information on the Emerald California Pilot Program, strategies for sustainable multifamily housing, and local government survey results added to the Green General Plan Toolkit.

February 23, 2010- The California Sustainability Alliance honors its seven 2009 Sustainability Showcase Award Recipients and announces the City of Santa Monica as the grand prize winner at its annual Sustainability Showcase Awards Luncheon. In recognition of its holistic adoption of sustainability best practices, Santa Monica will be featured in a video documentary and will have a grove of trees planted by Tree People, an environmental nonprofit. January 21, 2010- The California Sustainability Alliance announces its 2009 Sustainability Showcase Award Recipients. The Alliance is recognizing leaders in five areas: Jones Lang LaSalle (Commercial Buildings); Los Angeles Housing Partnership (Multifamily Housing); Town of Los Gatos (Local Government, Small); City of Santa Monica (Local Government, Medium); County of San Diego (Local Government, Large); Sonoma County Water Agency (Water Agencies); and Los Angeles Community College District (Other Products and Services).  Learn more about the 2009 Sustainability Showcase Awards.

January 12, 2010- The California Sustainability Alliance releases the Green General Plan Toolkit and the Local Government Operations Protocol Toolkit.  These toolkits provide assistance to local governments in setting and meeting sustainability goals for their communities and for internal operations.  Learn more about the Green General Plan Toolkit and the Local Government Operations Protocol Toolkit.

September 23, 2009- The California Sustainability Alliance launches its new blog.  Sustainability experts provide information and insight with a focus on climate action, green real estate and the water-energy nexus.  Other sustainability issues that will be addressed include energy and water efficiency, renewable energy, recycled water, smart planning and growth, transit-oriented development and waste reduction.  Learn more and read the California Sustainability Alliance Blog.
