2011 Sustainability Showcase Award Recipients

THE CALIFORNIA SUSTAINABILITY ALLIANCE NAMES 2011 SUSTAINABILITY SHOWCASE AWARD RECIPIENTS

Awards highlight the efforts of leading California organizations paving the way towards the state’s sustainable future.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – March 8, 2012–The California Sustainability Alliance, a market transformation program managed by Navigant. (NYSE: NCI), is proud to announce recipients of the 2011 Sustainability Showcase Awards. Now in its fourth year, the Sustainability Showcase Awards recognize the successful sustainability policies, programs, practices and technologies implemented by leading organizations in four categories in the state of California:

“This year’s Sustainability Showcase Awards winners are using innovative, customized strategies – both internally and externally – to implement sustainable practices that benefit thousands of people in the state of California,” said Carlo Gavina, Program Manager for the California Sustainability Alliance at Southern California Gas. “We are pleased to share their successful policies and practices with others, and to honor them for both their achievements and their dedication to sustainability.”

Winners in each category will be honored at the California Sustainability Alliance Showcase Awards Luncheon to be held May 22nd, 2012 in Downey California.  Mr. Ron Nichols, General Manager of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), will serve as keynote speaker for the 2011 Sustainability Showcase Awards Luncheon. 

“The utility industry must play a major role in improving the efficiency of our customer’s use of energy  in their homes and businesses, and in providing the energy they do use from more sustainable sources,” said Mr. Nichols.  “As the nation’s largest municipal utility, LADWP is proud to build on the Alliance’s work in identifying cost-effective ways to improve sustainability, both throughout our organization and in the community we serve.”

As the senior executive for LADWP, Mr. Nichols provides leadership for the utility to provide reliable and competitively priced water and electricity while maintaining and implementing environmentally conscious policies andpriorities. Mr. Nichols previously served on the Alliance’s Advisory Board for the Public Sustainability Partnership, and provided insight for the partnership’s best-practices oriented sustainability benchmarking tool for local governments.
