A sustainability program should be treated like any other venture your organization chooses to undertake; it should make business sense, be measurable, and fit within the organization’s overall mission. In order to assess and plan for these variables, your Team should be clear about what each step entails, what order to conduct them in, and who should be involved during each phase. The figure below demonstrates the flow of steps in the sustainability program process. The figure highlights the necessity of shared responsibilities and coordination between management and the Green Team, as well as the communication and feedback loops that are essential to motivating the entire organization to act in accordance with the organization’s sustainability mission. You’ll also find a "Sustainability Program Process Checklist”. The checklist includes a summary of each step’s tasks and references the section of this document where you can find more details. Consider using the checklist as an ongoing tool as you work through the process.
