Green Buildings

The Governor's Green Action Team is making significant strides towards implementing the Green Building Initiative (Executive Order S-20-04) to obtain LEED™ certification for state-owned buildings. Some municipalities are beginning to follow suit and "LEED by example" with buildings that they own and operate. Large corporations with Corporate Environmental Responsibility (CER) commitments are also taking steps to green the buildings they own and/or occupy.

This leaves the 90% of non-owner occupied office space uncovered. The Alliance therefore decided to focus its attention on building alignment of incentives and interests of lessors and lessees to accelerate the greening of leased office space in California.

This pilot program is being guided by a diverse team of green building, financial and leasing experts.

The Inland Empire Utilities Agency was the first public agency in the nation to receive the U.S. Green Building Council’s highest rating, Platinum, under its LEEDTM NC Certification. At 66,000 square feet, it was also the largest LEEDTM Platinum facility ever. The 14-acre headquarters office complex anchors the 22-acre Chino Creek Park, which was designed to restore the natural drainage and ecological function of the site while providing public recreation and habitat for endangered and sensitive species. IEUA also received the Governor's 2003 Environmental and Economic Leadership Award for this impressive project. The building has been operational since June 2003.
