City of Riverside

City of Riverside from the Rubidoux.

Riverside is the 12th largest city in California, spanning approximately 85-square miles. The City of Riverside’s mission is to provide high quality municipal services to ensure a safe, inclusive, and livable community. In addition to providing essential city services to its citizens, the City owns and operates water and electric utilities that have served the Riverside community for more than 115 years. Riverside Public Utilities, which is governed by a board of nine community volunteers, provides high-quality services to more than 111,000 customers and is committed to the increased use of renewable energy resources and sustainable living practices.

Today, green and sustainable living has been integrated into the City’s General Plan as a major part of Riverside’s day-to-day operations. This year, Riverside also has an opportunity to make history as the first municipality in the country to enter a Sustainability Commission into the City’s charter; doing so will solidify sustainability as a permanent objective of the City and exemplify Riverside’s commitment to its environmental, economic and social wellbeing. The purpose of the Commission is to monitor progress toward the achievement of Riverside’s Green Action Plan goals and advocate for the adoption of sustainable practices throughout the City’s various sectors.

It is evident by Riverside’s ongoing dedication to clean and green living that the City’s residents have rallied around one major cause: sustainability.
