Tulare's fuel cells are powered by biogas from dairy waste digesters.
Solar and Fuel Cell Plant
Tulare’s wastewater treatment facility treats much of the Central Valley’s agricultural wastewater. The wastewater treatment facility used to flare biogas created during the wastewater treatment process. Tulare developed three 300-kilowatt fuel cells powered by biogas from dairy waste digesters The Biogas Fuel Cell Project provides half of the base load power required by the waste treatment facility while producing 99% fewer NOx and SOx emissions than conventional power plants. An onsite one MW solar plant generates additional clean energy to help power the facility.
