Commitment to LEED

KRC’s sustainability strategy includes a commitment to LEED Gold certification for all new development, and the company evaluates major renovations and existing buildings for certifications. Currently, 28 percent of its office portfolio is LEED certified. KRC is one of the first developers in the nation to pursue LEED for Neighborhood Development certification for One Paseo, a 26-acre proposed mixed-use project in San Diego. The proposed project will feature compact development, infill site selection, energy and water efficient buildings, and a pedestrian-friendly design that will reduce automobile use. In addition, the company built the first LEED for Core & Shell buildings in both San Diego and El Segundo. Kilroy has a Director of Sustainability Programs who coordinates all its LEED certifications internally, streamlining the process.

The company is also participating in SDG&E's Sustainable Communities Program to install solar PV on all new development pursuing LEED certification in San Diego.

To complement its commitment to LEED, KRC instituted a sustainable purchasing program, which holds its new development, renovations, facility alterations, and tenant improvements to strict standards for construction materials purchasing.
